OUR STORY
Skilled Electrical was formed in September of 2009. Initially, it was Dean himself on the tools contracting to various companies throughout the South Island, often in the mining industry.
The Christchurch earthquake and the Pike River disaster were the catalysts for deciding to establish a full-blown contracting electrical company based in Christchurch, within Canterbury and the South Island.
Skilled Electrical currently has a team of approximately 27 technicians, including 2 inspectors and 2 engineers within the group.

We have Air-conditioning and heat pump specialists in a separate division based in Christchurch. Here we can do everything from standard hi wall installations to the full design and installation of ducted air con units for both domestic and mid-sized commercial installations.
Design and installation of Solar Systems
We work very closely with Endless Energy, a sister company also based in Bromley, Christchurch. By working in partnership, our electricians can design and install anything from a 3kW solar system to an exceptionally large 1 MW system.
High-End Architectural Builds
High-end Architectural builds require a specialised and detail-oriented electrician. Over the years we have successfully completed many of these in the Christchurch and Canterbury area. We have a small team that know how to deliver a high-end service and end result for this type of electrician work.
Mining, Tunnels, Heavy Industrial
With the owner/founder of Skilled having a mining background, we also have a Christchurch team that can put their hands to anything industrial having done various high-profile contracts in the South Island, from subcontracts at Fonterra, Edendale Dairy Factory, Christchurch Hospital, and tunneling project on the West Coast etc.
In-House Electrical
We have a design and build service for any domestic or commercial build again done from our Christchurch office as an additional service.

If extra tasks are added to a project or something unforeseen arises, we undertake that any additional costs are given to you in writing on the same day or by the very next day.
We don’t mind where you go for light fittings, however, we do recommend you consult with us first as we can often supply you with superior quality fittings at a better price. In particular, downlights and standard wall lights. We use trusted suppliers who know our high standards, so you can be sure of the quality of fittings we use.
We recommend every property goes through an annual “Electrical Warrant of Fitness”. This involves several tests to ensure the electrical system has the necessary protection for its ongoing safety, a visual inspection and, most critically, checking and tightening connections, particularly at the switchboard and on any essential equipment. Connections loosen over time and this is the biggest cause of electrical fires by far.
